We met Puan Mariam Lebam, the former Senior Director of FAMA at the briefing to vegetable and fruit farmers at the conference room of Chinese Chamber SEl.& KL, Jalan Ampang on 17 Aug 2010. She was pensioned and appointed as advisor by MOA to assist FAMA in contract farming.

Her power-point had shown the successful projects in Sabah and Sarawak of farmers under contract farming who are able to improve in their farming management and production. FAMA is working with MARDI to introduce Integrated Farming and Tissue Culture Technology along with their contract farming projects, where they provide R&D, extension and training to farmers.

Puan Mariam was confident to say that one of their contract farmers is able to produce 10kg of cucumber in one plant per season and the production with tissue culture can shorten production period for 10 days. In-house cow dung had improve yield.

Expert had pointed out that integrated farming is the future of agriculture and one solution to fight climate warming. We would like to see further progress and bigger achievements of HIP's project by Puan Mariam and her partners.
